Action Fence Company of Chattanooga, family-owned in Hixson, Tennessee since 1981, installs galvanized and vinyl-coated chain link for homes, businesses, and farms across Hamilton County and North Georgia. You choose the height, pattern, color, coating, and thickness, and razor ribbon can be added on fences eight feet and higher.

When Is Chain Link the Right Fence?

When you want a strong, durable fence for less than a privacy fence costs. Chain link keeps dogs and kids in, secures a commercial lot, and lets a wooded yard stay open to the view. We've installed it for homes, businesses, and farms around Chattanooga since 1981.

We help you design it: with options for height, pattern, color, coating, and thickness, the fence can be built for a backyard or a secure perimeter. Galvanized is the classic finish. Vinyl-coated adds a color coating over the metal, and black vinyl-coated fades into a wooded lot better than most people expect.

Can I Combine Chain Link With Vinyl or Wood to Save?

Yes, and it's a trick we often suggest. Put a vinyl or wood fence where it shows and chain link where it doesn't, and you get the look and the security for a lot less than one material all the way around. Ask us to price it both ways.

What Security Options Can Chain Link Have?

Barbed wire on top when you need extra security, and razor ribbon, spiraled around the strands and run along the top, on fences eight feet and higher. We also add entry and exit gates with keypads, gate operators, and telephone entry. For business and secure sites, see our commercial and industrial fencing pages.

Is Chain Link Right for You?

Most people come to us with a reason, not a material: a new dog, a pool, a neighbor, a pasture. Here's how the five materials we install compare.

MaterialPrivacyPets & KidsMaintenanceTypical CostLooks Best On
WoodStain or seal every few yearsOlder neighborhoods, wooded lots
VinylRinse it offNew builds, HOA subdivisions
AluminumVery lowPools, front yards, driveways
Chain LinkVery lowLarge yards, commercial lots
Farm RailLowAcreage, pasture, long drives

More dots mean more of that quality. Cost is relative to the other materials we install; every job is priced on its own. Building a pool fence? In Tennessee and Georgia, a residential pool barrier must be at least 48 inches tall with self-closing, self-latching gates. We build pool fence to that rule.

What Keeps a Chain Link Fence Tight?

Its posts and its tension. The fabric is stretched between terminal posts, so those posts have to be set solidly in concrete and the fabric tied off tight. Galvanized fabric and framework resist rust; vinyl coating adds a layer over that. The materials carry the manufacturer's warranty, and our one-year craftsmanship warranty covers the installation.

How It Works

How a Fence Gets Built

Four steps from the first visit to the last post. Most residential jobs take about two days on site once materials arrive.

  1. 1

    Consultation

We walk the property, talk through what you need, and recommend options that fit your yard and budget.

  2. 2

    Measure and Proposal

A fence consultant takes precise measurements, then presents a formal proposal.

  3. 3

    Materials Ordered

Once you're under contract, materials are bought and shipped to our storage yard in Sale Creek.

  4. 4

    Installed in About Two Days

On install day the crew meets you for a final look at property lines and gate placement, then builds. The average job takes about two days; size and surprises can change that.

Common Questions

Chain Link Fence Questions

Something else on your mind? Call (423) 842-8700 and ask.

Is chain link cheaper than a privacy fence?

Generally, yes. Chain link costs less per foot than wood or vinyl privacy fence, and vinyl-coated costs a little more than galvanized. Combining chain link with vinyl or wood is how many people save on a big yard. We'll quote it both ways.

Can chain link be private?

Not on its own; you can see through it. If you want privacy where people look, put vinyl or wood on that side and chain link on the rest.

Galvanized or vinyl-coated?

Galvanized is the classic silver finish and the lower-cost choice. Vinyl-coated adds a color coating over the metal; black is the one that disappears into trees and shade. We install both.

Can I put barbed wire on my fence?

It depends on where you are. We can add barbed wire on top of a fence, and razor ribbon on fences eight feet and higher, but local rules vary: LaFayette prohibits barbed wire in residential districts, Chatsworth allows no chain link in residential front yards, and Chickamauga bars chain link and barbed wire in its US-27 commercial overlay. We check your address first.
